How to be Discerning: Spirituality and Social Media

There is a lot of crap out there on social media, spiritually speaking.

There is also more truth available to spiritual seekers than ever before in history.

So how do we sort the real gems from the fake? How do we find the authentic teachings amongst the dross, in a world where everybody and their mum is channelling Galactic Guides on YouTube, setting themselves up as a manifestation coach on Tik Tok, or offering oracle readings on Instagram.

How do we find that special healer worthy of working with?

It’s all about what resonates. The more in touch with our hearts we are, the better we are at trusting ourselves when it comes to what resonates. (See my post, What does a Heart Felt Yes Feel Like?)

When we are in touch with our own unique, authentic vibration, we are more adept at attracting healers, teachers and psychics to us, who have a similar vibration, whose energy we really like.

Check in with yourself to see if they are coming from a place of love. If something or someone you’re following seems to be operating out of fear, what they’re peddling is not worthy of your time.

And as RJ Spina says, "be a creator, not a consumer."

Consumers often have poor quality control. We can consume YouTube video after YouTube video, podcast after podcast, eyewateringly expensive course after course, and evolve not one iota. This is because when we merely consume spiritual information, we do little but develop Spiritual Ego. This makes us worse, not better.

Consuming information not the same as getting creative with a dedicated spiritual practice.

Consuming has little to do with discernment. It’s more about volume, quantity not quality, because it’s ultimately unsatisfying so we tend to overdo it. It has nothing to do with the embodiment or integration of wisdom

Set the intention, “From now on, I am very discerning.”

Repeat it before sleep and upon awakening.

Check in with your heart often and listen deep to see if something is right for you. Your Higher Self knows.

Once you start operating from a heart-based awareness, synchronicities show up in your life,

messages appear just at the right time. You start hearing certain messages from multiple sources and at the right time. Things, situations, fall into place. Opportunities arise as though by magic.

You are less and less likely to seek outside of yourself anyway, and when you do, you can completely trust your own powers of discernment.
